Chin Augmentation

Who is a Candidate for Chin Augmentation? Both men and women can be concerned about the lack of projection of their chin. A “weak” chin can also affect the appearance of the lips and make your nose seem larger than it really is. Chin augmentation surgery is for otherwise healthy individuals looking to enhance their facial balance.

Planned Results: Improve the projection of the chin and enhance facial harmony.

Procedure Description: The implant size will be determined at your consultation. The procedure is completed under general anesthetic. You will require an adult to drive you home and stay the night with you.

The incision will be made on the inside of your lower lip, or underneath your chin, this will be discussed at your consultation. The implant will be placed and fixed to your chin bone. The incision will be closed with dissolving stitches.

Recuperation and Healing: You will have some swelling, bruising and discomfort. You will be sent home with prescription medications to keep you comfortable. You will be encouraged to return to your usual daily activities as soon as possible. Prolonged bedrest can lead to serious complications. You should avoid any activity that increases your blood pressure for 48 hours. You will be given instructions on how to use a special mouthwash in order to keep the incision clean if it is inside your lip.

Options and Considerations: Chin augmentation may also be achieved by genioplasty surgery; which involves cutting the chin bone and sliding it either forward or downward.

Notes: Infection of the implants is a serious complication and can be caused by contamination of the incision due to the many bacteria that live in the mouth. You will be sent home with antibiotics and it is very important you take the pills as directed and finish the complete course. Care of the incisions is also extremely important. You will be provided with details of wound care on discharge home. Cleanliness and personal oral hygiene is extremely important. All possible complications will be discussed at your consultation.
