Upper Lid Blepharoplasty
Who is a Candidate for Upper Lid Blepharoplasty: As we age the upper eyelid skin can become loose and create folds or bags contributing to an aged and tired appearance of the eyes and fat pads that are normally present in the eyelid can bulge forward leading to a puffy and tired appearance. Individuals with no ongoing eye disease or untreated thyroid problems are candidates for upper lid blepharoplasty.
Planned Results: An upper lid blepharoplasty can remove the excess skin and fat to restore a more youthful and rested appearance.
Procedure Description: Pre-treatment photographs will be taken. The excess skin and fat will be marked out and the area to be removed will be frozen with local anesthetic. The skin will be sterilized. The excess skin and fat will be removed, and the incision closed with a suture. You will have steri-strips over the incisions at the end of the procedure.
Recuperation and Healing: You can expect to have bruising and swelling following the procedure for approximately 1 week. You should keep sitting or elevate the head of your bed for the first 48 hours to decrease the swelling. You can use icepacks to decrease the swelling. Some individuals suffer from dry eyes after the procedure and may need moisturizing drops.
Insurance: If the excess skin is interfering with your vision the procedure may be covered by OHIP. You will require evaluation by an optometrist and a computer generated visual fields test to apply to OHIP for consideration of coverage.
